Foundation Builders.
Scratch, first circuits with Arduino, and a first look at 3D printing.
Last updated:
Foundation Builders is the GNR Robotics grade band for Grades 3–5. Students move from guided builds to their own circuits and code: Scratch coding, first LED and sensor circuits with Arduino, simple machines, and an introduction to 3D design and printing.
What are the objectives?
- Identify components and build working LED, buzzer and sensor circuits
- Use light and sound sensors to make a circuit react
- Write Scratch programs with loops, conditions and variables
- Measure and draw simple objects in CAD
What is covered in each grade?
| Grade | Topics | Project |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | LEDs, switches, buzzers, batteries, basic circuits and input/output. Scratch sequences, events, sprites and simple games. | Electronic indicator |
| 4 | Light and sound sensors, control circuits, motors and troubleshooting. Scratch loops, conditions, variables and debugging. | Automatic night lamp or security alarm |
| 5 | Sensor-based circuits, simple IC modules, mechanical assemblies and circuit testing. Advanced Scratch, introductory CAD and basic 3D models. | Automatic fan or environmental indicator |
Topics follow the grade-wise courses in our school curriculum proposal.
Kits and tools
Electronics kit with LEDs, buzzers, sensors and motors, Arduino boards, Scratch, introductory CAD, and a project workbook. Coding is done in small groups or on a shared screen.
Learning outcomes and assessment
By the end of the band, students can design a small automatic device, such as a night lamp that switches on in the dark, wire it, program it, and troubleshoot it themselves.
Students are assessed on their builds: each grade ends with a project they demonstrate and explain to mentors and family.
How is it delivered?
26 classes a year, taught in person by trained mentors at your school or at our Horamavu and Vijayanagar centres. Each student gets a hands-on kit, a project workbook and LMS access with video lessons, quizzes and chapter PDFs. No individual laptops are needed.
