Tinker Explorers.
Electronics and mechanical fundamentals, built with Lego blocks.
Last updated:
Tinker Explorers is the first GNR Robotics grade band, for Grades 1–2. Children learn STEM electronics and mechanical fundamentals using Lego blocks: simple circuits, magnets and batteries, safe snap-together builds, and unplugged games for sequencing and logic before screens.
What are the objectives?
- Recognise everyday machines and how they move
- Build stable structures and simple mechanisms with wheels, axles, gears and levers
- Complete a safe low-voltage circuit with a switch, light, buzzer or motor
- Follow and create step-by-step sequences
What is covered in each grade?
| Grade | Topics | Project |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Switches, lights, buzzers, movement, wheels, levers and simple mechanisms. Patterns, sequencing, logic puzzles and introductory ScratchJr storytelling. | Miniature moving machine |
| 2 | Safe low-voltage circuits, motors, gears, simple sensors and mechanism design. ScratchJr events, sequences and animated stories. | Mini alarm or motorised model |
Topics follow the grade-wise courses in our school curriculum proposal.
Kits and tools
Lego blocks, child-safe enclosed low-voltage modules (lights, buzzers, motors), magnets and batteries, and a project workbook. Digital activities such as ScratchJr are done in small groups, so no child needs their own laptop.
Learning outcomes and assessment
By the end of the band, children can build a machine that moves, explain what each part does, and fix a simple fault such as a loose wheel or a broken connection.
Students are assessed on their builds: each grade ends with a project they demonstrate and explain to mentors and family.
How is it delivered?
26 classes a year, taught in person by trained mentors at your school or at our Horamavu and Vijayanagar centres. Each student gets a hands-on kit, a project workbook and LMS access with video lessons, quizzes and chapter PDFs. No individual laptops are needed.
